More About Lakin Spears, LLP

Founded in 1914 here in Palo Alto, Lakin Spears, LLP is a boutique law firm built on a long tradition of prompt, efficient and value-added legal services to our clients.

The history of Lakin Spears, LLP is a part of the living tapestry of Palo Alto and the San Francisco Peninsula, as well as a legacy of lasting contributions to the law and the legal community. Among the oldest law firms in Palo Alto, the firm was founded in 1914 by Judge Egerton D. Lakin. Judge Lakin’s father, Josiah Lakin, was one of the pioneering citizens of early Palo Alto, serving as president of the first Liberty Board and a member of the early Board of Education. Judge Lakin attended high school in Palo Alto, and upon graduation from Stanford Law School in 1910, he began practicing law in San Francisco before opening offices here in Palo Alto.

Julia received her J.D. from the Honors Lawyering Program at Golden Gate University School of Law in 2007 with a certificate of specialization in litigation. She served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Laporte at the United States Federal Court for the Northern District of California and to the Honorable Judge Donald Sullivan at the San Francisco Unified Family Court.

Julia provides litigation, mediation, and consulting services to individuals regarding complex custody and financial matters. She served as a volunteer mediator at the San Mateo County Family Court and participated as a mentee in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers mentorship program since 2011. Julia completed mediation training with Gary Friedman and Catherine Conner through the Center for Understanding in Conflict.

Julia lives in San Francisco with her husband and two sons and enjoys cooking, yoga, and outdoor adventures.
